Introduction and Features of the Department
▲Introduction
The Department of Life Sciences aims to cultivate professionals with both expertise and humanistic qualities in the fields of life science and biotechnology at the undergraduate (Bachelor's), graduate (Master's), and doctoral levels.
The Graduate Institute of Biotechnology was established in 1996, followed by the Department of Life Sciences at the undergraduate level in 1997 and the doctoral level in 2006, all under the College of Science and Engineering. The department currently has 11 full-time faculty, 10 adjunct faculty, and 2 administrative assistants.

▲Features
The department aims to cultivate interdisciplinary biomedical and biotechnology talents with a teaching and research team consisting of faculty members who hold doctoral degrees from top universities in related fields in Taiwan and abroad. The department has excellent hardware and software for teaching and research, and its faculty members not only devote themselves to teaching but also actively guide students or professionals to engage in cutting-edge biomedical basic, applied, and translational research. Research topics include stem cells and disease treatment, nanomedicine, cancer, viruses, pharmacy, traditional Chinese medicine, plant genetic engineering, and fungal biological control. Faculty members also carry out multiple research projects funded by the National Science Council, industry-academia collaborations, and internal research programs, yielding fruitful results.
